Exhibitions

The 10th of December 2011 sees a great double exhibition of photography and paintings at the information centre in Grazalema... Starting at 12pm as usual this time the artists have really excelled and it promises to be one of our best events ever...

"The photographic exhibition comprises of 20 prints of 40x60cm and mounted in solid hand made wooden frames of 60x80cm. It is available in any format and unframed.

Dedicated to anyone who loves the natural world as I do and who has a few minutes of time to see this small sample detailing some of the most beautiful aspects of nature to be found here in the province of Cadiz.

The reason for this exhibition is that I would you to share with me the passion that makes me feel personally connected to each and every one of these photographs. Both peace and serenity of a sunset on the beach or the strength and momentum of a waterfall lost in the woods, the cheerful bubbling of a stream as it winds down the mountain or the fullness and grandeur of the thousands of colors that adorn each one of the four seasons.

In my work I have tried to share some of the many sensations that can be felt in these remote and quiet places and to let you enjoy the beauty contained in our wonderful natural world."

Exhibition of paintings- Christine Ellingham and Mayte Izquierdo Print E-mail
Exhibitions

On saturday the 4th of June the Information Centre and Art Gallery in Grazalema starts off it's summer season of exhibitions with two very different and very talented artists.... At 12 pm as normal  the exhibition will be open and on offer this time food wise will be pancakes in 6 different flavors made by our almost resident chef  "el Nene" and of course he will be using the amazing stone ground wholemeal flour that we mill here at the centre in our Artesanal Museum.... The exhibition runs for 6 weeks untill the 21st of July.

Christine Ellingham "Grazalema Viva"

Christine has lived in Spain, in the village of Benaoján, for eight years. She studied at Banbury School of Art and Design, (Oxfordshire, England) then Hornsey College of Art in London, where she specialized in illustration.

From the early 1960s onwards, she worked in London's Fleet Street as a freelance illustrator and designer, contributing to many national newspapers and magazines over a period of thirty years.

Nowadays, Christine is a painter and this work is as varied as her past occupation as an illustrator. She has no preferred medium. The subject matter may suggest a certain effect or she may decide, purely on a whim to go in a particular direction. She enjoys working in watercolour, pastel or acrylic, discovering each media anew when she returns to it.

'The Dream', had always been to come to southern Spain to paint. Drawn by the shimmering heat, the bold colours and sharp contrasts of light and shade, the sky at times, impossibly blue, perspective seemingly defying all laws, elements that suit her personality and her palette.

For her solo exhibition this summer, Christine has chosen, for most of the work, to explore the marvel that is Grazalema.

Grazalema is a particularly beautiful, 'Pueblo Blanco'. It is graced with an abundance of natural beauty and, it is plain to see, much hard work from the villagers to enhance this gift. It's climate is distinctive and it's setting, with a backdrop of mountains and a foreground of plains and undulations, works as an appealing composition which ever way you look at it.

Added to this, in the heart of the village, the houses are dazzlingly white and flower decked with pleasing shapes formed by angles and shadows, for a painter, it doesn't get much better!

Christine has used the medium of acrylic on canvas for these recent paintings displayed at the Information Centre and gallery in Grazalema

Exhibition of paintings- Christine Ellingham and Mayte Izquierdo

Mayte Izquierdo "Camino Hacia la Abstracción"

Mayte discovered art at an early age whilst just only 13 years and enrolled in the college of the Sagrada Family with the help of her teacher nun she created her first works entitled Buildings and landscapes of the French Pyrenees.

After leaving studies and persuing other activities It took many years until she could find the time to return and rededicate himself to painting. She Performs various specialized courses in drawing and painting and attends art workshops in the city of Granada, where Mayte now lives. She also participates in various group exhibitions and national painting contests.

Hers is a picture of stark contrasts capturing the essence of a land of whitewashed villages and whitewashed walls. Cacti and patios with potted geraniums, horse dancers and parties marked by the bullfighting tradition. She shows in her work a transfigured reality that transcends the form and soul of Andalucia.

Constantly changing, the artist explores the paths of abstraction works with a number of very suggestive and lyrical colors. There is great harmony and beauty, where her mastery of color and expression hold us in the delight of her contemplation and sublime emotions awaken us.

In this exhibition at the  Gallery Information Centre in Grazalema you can see her work that is part study and part knowledge of great masters such as Isidoro Marín, López Mezquita, José de Larrocha, Rafael Latorre, Rodríguez Acosta, Carmen Lafont, Sorolla, etc.

Exhibition -Mercedes Peci - Lucia Peinado "TEJIENDO VIDA"It is our pleasure to invite you to our Open House exhibition "TEJIENDO VIDA", on Saturaday 16th of April at 12 pm to see something a little different.

It is absolutely wonderful to see Lucia back to the Information Centre exhibition gallery in Grazalema. Her exhibition last year was a great success and this year she brings along a friend to share the space with.

There will be excellent tapas on offer as usual from chef Francisco Javier Pérez Menacho and of course wine tasting.

As an added bonus this time we also have live classical music on the doorstep from Starina. A duet specialising in Violin, clarinet and saxophone

Tejiendo Vida (life connected together as if in a woven fabric) shows works in oil, mixed media, sculpture and audio visual It invites you to come and share with the audience their links to the colors, shapes and beings that have been woven into the look and feel ..

"Weaving life became a reality after we met and admired the development that each has made in the paintings that are two different forms of expression. The tenderness and delicacy that are the figurative works of Mercedes merge with the forests of loose brushstrokes and light emanating from the paintings of Lucia."

The exhibition runs for 6 weeks until the 2nd of June 2011...

Exhibition of photography by Armando Lara Narbona "Namaste" Print E-mail
Exhibitions
Armando Lara Narbona - NamasteWe have great pleasure to see Armando back to the Information Centre exhibition gallery in Grazalema. His work last year, "Somos Agua", a study of water as a life giver and habitat from the high mountains to the lowlands and sea was a great success.

His latest works for this new exhibition are taken from his time in Nepal, An amazing exhibition, a study of the country and its people.

It is our pleasure to invite you to our Open House exhibition "NAMASTE", on March 5 at 12 am to see something a little different.

There will also be a "taste" of Nepal on offer from our (now seemingly resident) chef Francisco Javier Pérez Menard. He has orders to use our flour mill and make from that "authentic Nepalise" cuisine... A tall order? we'll see but, rest assured, the results will be outstanding as usual by this very talented young chef....

"Welcome to you my unknown friend and welcome to those who close their eyes and perceive the magic. The road ahead, and our way, is known and we all share a myriad of greens and blues.

In this way, I passed through landscapes, close to Mountains and surely closer to the green and blue, yes, and also to a dazzling white.
