Artesanía Del Prado is situated in a peaceful and beautiful old spanish farmhouse, with stunning views of the Sierras outside the pretty White Village of Olvera, in the Cadiz Province of Andalucia. The studio and gallery were set up by Liz and Jenny after moving to Andalusia from Devon, England. Liz who is originally from Zimbabwe produces pottery with an African influence. The Rukweza Pottery [Rukweza is a Shona word meaning grain] has an incised decoration.
The ceramics are all made from high quality stoneware clay then fired to 1300 degrees, which I imagine is very hot work in the summer! This range is glazed with a wood ash glaze which produces a soft olive green colour. There is also a blue range with a waxed decoration, fired to the same temperature. The extensive range of hand made pottery includes plates, cups, bowls, egg cups and serving dishes, all are available in the Rukweza Range. There are also a variety of other pottery items including aromatherapy burners, oil lamps, vases etc. The tableware is available in the Blue, although the range is not as extensive it can be made to order.
Liz & Jenny also produce a variety of hand decorated glass dishes, coasters and tiles. They use a process known as fusing and slumping which also involves kiln firing though at a lower temperature than that required for the pottery.
The tiles, which have a contemporary feel, are available to order and can be made in various sizes with many colour or pattern combinations. They could make splashbacks in kitchens and bathrooms really lively and colourful, the mixture of the fused blues and greens going really well with water themes indoors or also outside in the garden.
Jewellery is also hand made from fused and slumped glass, beautifully intricate, decorative patterns against the cool glass make for some really unique and individual pieces. The glass is finely polished and can be put into a setting, the pendants are normally assembled with colourful cords to show off their individuality. The pendants and earrings come in many different designs and all fastenings are nickel free Sterling Silver Plated.

The Artesanía Del Prado Studio is a great place to visit, it's nice to combine a coffee or lemonade on the veranda, in a peaceful setting whilst learning about these interesting crafts. This is an excellent source to buy gifts or just to treat yourself.
Prices range from 2€ onwards and there is something for everybody.
The workshops and small Gallery are generally open from Monday to Saturday, entrance is free.
It is necessary to phone Liz & Jenny on (0034) 956 234 060 or mobile [0034] 677 099 086 before you visit to avoid a wasted journey.
