The Tourist Information Centre in Grazalema opens its doors under new management. The Sierra de Grazalema is one of the oldest designated natural park areas in Spain and the village of Grazalema, being at its geographic centre, needs an information resource for the huge number of visitors that head for Grazalema first and foremost when entering the park area. It is logical after all, that Grazalema would have the most information available as it is the namesake of the very parkland, the Sierra de Grazalema. The "official" Grazalema information centre that we have just opened will provide items needed for all types of visitors interested in the natural world, gastronomy, culture and activities available in the area.
The proposal for us (Clive and Sue of the Grazalema Guide) to take over the running of the information centre in Grazalema was born from our concern that visitors to Grazalema have not been receiving the very best information and help in order to make their stay both enjoyable and productive. Our project plan went through a series of tests and also went up against other businesses proposals. The plan that we put forward was deemed to be more sustainable with a good chance of success and so we were awarded the project by the mancomunidad de municipios of Cadiz province. The town council of Grazalema also saw our project as something that could benefit the entire area for many years to come.
As well as a large number of guide books, maps, and other information sources, the shelves hold local artisan products and the walls provide space for exhibitions of artwork and photography. There is a welcoming atmosphere where information is in abundance and the staff can offer a selection of languages. (Spanish/English/German/French).
The centre can arrange your entrance permits for the restricted areas of Garganta Verde, El Torreon, El Pinsapar and Llano de Ravel. Just ask at the information desk.
Mountain bikes are available for hire and there are plans afoot for assisted battery powered bikes and hybrid energy efficient mopeds to be added to the fleet of sustainable vehicles.
Our staff (and us) have an abundance of local knowledge and information to help all types of visitors to the area who are seeking quiet countryside walks, radical caving, climbing or cultural, gastronomical and village tours.
For us, our world is about to change radically as during the last 4 years we have concentrated almost entirely on our quiet and peaceful life in 'La Ribera', a scenic valley near to Grazalema. Here we have been developing our websites, researching wildlife, writing articles and expanding our extensive photographic portfolio. We will continue to expand our already existing promotional web based services to nature tourism in both Iberia and the park areas surrounding Grazalema but now our work will be done from a busy office rather than a quiet, tranquil house in the country
Our Website projects include
The Grazalema Guide Sustainable tourism in Western Andalucia promoted to the English speaking world. It was a natural evolution for us to create a website project for the Sierra de Grazalema. The Grazalema Guide project is just over a year old and growing rapidly in both interesting content and quality. Almost all content is written and published by ourselves and there is a plan to involve other writers in the near future. Our advertisers are benefiting from the extra exposure and the general feedback is excellent. There are plans also to convert the site to Spanish and other languages.
Wildside Holidays is one of our first websites and it promotes many of the finest independent companies and owner operators in some of Spain and Portugal’s best wildlife watching and activity eco-destinations.
Wildsideholidays Nature Pages is a complimentary side of this same site, being a collection of articles containing informative details on individual animal and plant species (an ongoing and never-ending study on the nature of Spain).
Photosierra is a gallery holding a sample of our photographic work with a selection of our postcards and prints.
The Iberianature Forum is an active forum with over 400 members offering a myriad of topics including; animal and plant identifications, destination advice, trip reports and a photo gallery.
So if you are in the area of Grazalema village, call in to see us at the Centro de Información Turistica in the Plaza de Los Asomaderos, Grazalema
